They're one of the biggest modern metal bands so guess you either live under a rock or don't follow the scene

Exactly. That statement quoted on the previous page doesn't really make sense, especially since if you're frequenting a music discussion site (especially this one), then you're probably not just a passive consumer of music and are probably more familiar with the different scenes, even the ones you don't like. Whether you love or hate the band (or just don't give a shit) you should probably still be aware of how big they are. They're not drawing these huge crowds, making these high budget videos, and collaborating with essentially whoever they want because people listen to them to be ironic.
Thinking about it, one of the reasons Babymetal might have such diehard fans is because they faced such (understandably justified in the beginning) dismissive attitudes from people in the beginning. All the typical "novelty listen" and 'gimmick band' comments that haven't even really been arguable in years.

i mean i don't really follow them or their adjacent bands and the last time i actively listened to any of their music was like 5 years ago so pardon me for not keeping up on how big they are. lets just say that i did not anticipate them reaching the heights that they have, which is admirable but at the same time speaks to a certain urge for westerners to appropriate anything japanese / kawaii.
also they can miss me with the Slaughter to Prevail, Polyphia and Electric Callboy features.

Thread has me thinking the unthinkable (doing a babymetal discog run today)

some of their best stuff recently have been collabs (the ones with BTMH, Bloodywood, Poppy, Tak Mutsomoto) so i thought they might have found a new niche there, but most of this is kinda trash unfortunately. most of the artists on here are garbage and too much of a clash with Babymetal

Always a "but" with BABYMETAL. They've been dealing with it from the very beginning and luckily they've always ignored the bullshit.

Except it doesn't. There are plenty of Japanese bands that no one gives a shit about or that aren't as big as Babymetal in the west. There's no one-size-fits-all blind consumption of Japanese entertainment. There are dozens of Japanese bands all with their own images and blend of Japanese-isms and modern music, and none are as big as Babymetal. My point being that very little, if any, of Babymetal's success can be attributed to any compelling need to blindly appropriate or there would be other Japanese bands with similar success outside their own country, but there's really not.

Having run through them again, I feel like Babymetal and Metal Galaxy fall more on the silly/fun side meanwhile Metal Resistance/The Other One seem more focused/serious. Personally I prefer the former. Not sure where I place this one yet

As someone who doesn't listen to the band, My Queen sounds pretty rad.

Whoever said none of the guest acts could write a Babymetal song.... Bloodywood wrote the best "babymetal" song I've heard in a while in Bekhauf, it just happens to be on their own album Nu Dehli.
Not Surprisingly, Kon Kon sounds quite a bit like a Bloodywood song as well, so there's all kinds of style incest going on in this album.
Oh, yeah and this is a 2.5. The Other One was them going in the right direction, consider this a half step back.

It definitely paid off. If it gets them to play bigger venues in the states, I'll call that a win as a fan.

I prefer the sillier side but the more serious has given me what I consider more focused albums.
I would love something between Metal Galaxy and The Other One though.

That's pretty much what they gave us on the three original tracks, and they were great.

True, I really really did like the original tracks. Makes me keen on the next album whenever that comes.
