The lead vocals aren't that great, they have maybe a sort of charm, but it's still not quite there for my personal preference. He sounds untrained, to my ears. Yes, post-rock is known for its long and drawn-out songs, but this is just excessive, and then when the big crescendo moments happen, they are just overbearing. There is so many layers, so much dissonance, it becomes incredibly off-putting. The best post-rock will completely detach themselves from that "crescendo-core" philosophy. They will focus on making great songs, they don't focus on making it mind-numbingly long. Sometimes it can be a shorter song, but it still resonates far more than this album ever could.

Tundra is trolling, he wrote the “undeniable regal divinity” soundoff for Sleep Token

quintessential 3.0 band that becomes a 3.5 band if you perform enough deadlifts to paralyze yourself for 2 days straight and then take a bunch of kava tincture and caffeine pills before putting on a record and staring at the wall for hours on end
that's the mindset you need to be in to enjoy swans' overlong albums, inability to do anything else + a mildly altered state of calm and stimulated
in other words mamma mia post rock sure is a shitty genre
@ the guy who asked how to appreciate 2hr albums

Really surprised people are so fussed about the length? Maybe it’s just my love of prog rock and experimental music, but 10-20 mins songs aren’t that uncommon or absurd. Especially considering there’s only 7 songs, this record actually feels pretty brief. And to those who rebuttal with something like, “yeah but it’s boring”, eh I disagree. Lots to take in and enjoy whether it’s the quiet moments of space or the heavy layered movements of noise. /taking the bait

ad Seer discussion: I agree the title track is not its highlight, but Lunacy and all four tracks on second disc, especially A Piece of the Sky and Song for the Warrior, are still pretty unique in post-reunion band's catalogue, elevate the whole thing to 5 easy and I don't see anything elitist about it haha
