"milquetoast songwriting bogged down by some absolutely cringe lyric writing"
The problem with not being religious is that when these people sing about Satan, they might as well be singing about dragons and elves. They hold the same weight. The only people scared of satanic lyrics are religious people... who won't listen to this anyway. So, the rest of us are stuck with low-brow fantasy lyrics that don't generally add to the music at all.

There's definitely still a crowd amongst the blackcraft elite that think this is some grand sweeping ideology
But it's a niche market that they haven't grasped onto quite as effectively as most pseudo-pseudo goth acts or deathcore bands have

Is this an attempt to be ‘in on the joke’, essentially becoming what your detractors accuse you of, a knowingly parody of sorts. I mean the title is ridiculous lol
or am I being too kind? (either way it doesn’t make the music enjoyable).

Cue to horned demon Nergal on the cover of Satanica

only listened to the sinlges, and quite dug Shadow Elite. get the vibe these guys can still go instrumentally but its the cringe song-writing and lyrics which just smother it too much

ahh, I don’t use Insta but I can imagine. Wishful thinking perhaps. I liked The Satanist a while back.
Listening to Demigod and it’s hmm okay but nothing remarkable. Better than this. What’s their 90s stuff like? Expecting maybe more lo-fi BM old school type stuff, at a guess
|
| |
The name of this album alone is enough for me to skip.
|
| |
demigod was boring as shit, satanist def clears it with ease
their 90s stuff is generic lo fi bm for the most part

Demigod has cool riffs but ngl I reallllly dislike the layered vocals and it def brings it a stage below Evangelion
Although tbh nothing they've ever made is terribly close to Evangelion and DEFINITELY not close to The Satanist imo

Only albums I've yet to jam is Cultus and Naturam of which the latter being good I'm terribly doubtful

yeah, Demigod’s vox aren’t great. Pretty distracting.
Think I’m done with this band. I may re-jam The Satanist at some point but persevering any further doesn’t seem worthwhile

the actual way to offend people these days is not with extremity, not with satanism, but by making people cringe.
|
| |
Yeah I couldn't get into Demigod for the longest time because of those annoying vocals.
Now it's prob my second or third favorite Behemoth record, but that's just because I got used to the vocals rather than actually liking them tbh. If the vocals didn't have like 800 fucking layers throughout the whole goddamn album, that might actually be my favorite one.
I still have to jam this but I'm sort of afraid to considering how fucking cringe the last two albums were and how stupid this album title is.

Agreed. Musically it’s fine, nothing earthshaking, but the lyrics really hurt this thing. A few times I grimaced listening though it. Like you’ve already said, they’ve become a caricature of their former selves. These dudes are turning into Kiss at this point — focusing more on dropping $300 statues of themselves over writing decent music

Yeah that is pretty funny. Like what do you think you’re accomplishing here hun lol
I feel like this is what people who don’t like metal think all metal sounds like. I gave it another spin this morning and god damn the fall off from The Satanist is unreal. My score has nothing to do with the lyrics, with harsher vocals that’s usually the last thing I care about when it comes to music, this album is just so fucking lazy and boring.
