This is easily one of the best releases of the year so far.

I hope this grows on me because I’m really missing the mena influenced, experimental nature of the last album. The production is not as three dimensional either. It’s just not connecting with me at the moment, but I’m reserving final judgement.

The Siouxsie is strong on Sara. She's always been a great singer but the harmonies on this one are incredible, damn.

Great video, to no one's surprise. Love how it picks up right after The Dress and that it also includes poetry at the end.

Love this album. The Dress is definitely a soty candidate

At Races is the one here, though vaguely agreed that this feels a little meat and potatoes compared to Close

yeah, I'm battling with that myself rn. I've heard this three times and it's very erm "accomplished" yet feels like a dialling back of sorts. It's essentially been the same experience every time so far, where I was expecting hidden depths.
Perhaps I was incorrect when saying refinement doesn't have to be a negative, at least in this context of this album. I definitely don't prefer it to Close, which had a little more juice to separate it

Close it's a great album and the culmination of everything they had done up to that point so I can definitely understand the preference.
This one takes them forward and I find it has more variation while having a runtime that invites repeated listens. Both are great albums anyway.

This has been high on my list since seeing it in the weeklies post but the way you’ve described it makes it sound especially up my alley
Also it’s review summaries like this that make me miss my avatar even more, Norma Shearer’s likeness commenting on a thread that references Scarlet O’Hara would be so deliciously meta

Haha true, that would have been transcendental stuff.
They label themselves as Scarlet Doom so I just, you know, put one and one together and... Yeah I know, I'm a genius.

maybe knowing who Scarlet O'Hara is, is the key to unlocking the potential here?
