it isnt a v frequent dig but whenever i really need some aggro that doesn't come off super toxic, straight edge hardcore is cool. even if embrace is probably my favorite of the ian mackaye led bands

Look up the lyrics to Live in a Hole and read them without the music.

They might be heavy handed but 'if taken at face value' the lyrics for 'Rise' read as one of the most anti racist songs of all time.

I’m still having

‘Unscarred by trials’ as one of my favourite lyrics.

I didn't know music could sound racist.
Viewing Pantera as a hyper-masculine-southern-pride entity rather than a big middle finger really corners what their music can be to you. How is Walk intertwined with a heavy dose of "southern pride"? This review is just

The worldwide phenomenon Pantera compared to....a band someone heard of called Trapt who I'm guessing are best known for a controversy I and 99.9% of music fans don't know about

@Stenny: It's partially from seeing the "white pride" speeches Anselmo used to give and all their past associations with the Confederate flag (the latter of which they've denounced albeit far too late, I'm glad some progress has been made with this return run at least even if it is a bit of a slap in the face to the Abbotts to return right after Vinnie died), that makes the southern riffage in this case just sound so associated with that in my head.

might just be a guilt by association thing i'm making myself believe, but it's how it feels to me

@Doof: i mean maybe it does, but i can't really rationalize it at odds with the white pride shit Phil did at concerts in the 90s. maybe i'm wrong but it's weird that it's coming from the same lips that spouted all that shit if it's meant the way you imply

@pika: this is true. Ivan's such an Anselmo-imitator it made me question if I even liked Anselmo vocally anymore
