'Turgid' is the first word that springs to mind after I finished listening. It's not obscenely bad, it's just....turgid

I don't think Jari understands how instruments are supposed to sound. He brags about having hundreds of layers of stuff going on but orchestral music isn't recorded that way. Listen to Choirs of the Eye which is downright minimal in comparison, it sounds huge. This whole mindset needs to die.

The production sounds like Jari used Airpods to record it

the guitar and drum sound is garbage yes
probably the most plastic sounding record of 2024
untenable

He could have used the time and money to enroll in a music college but something tells me he's fundamentally opposed to the idea that someone else might know more about how his music should be recorded than he does.

Honestly digging this so far, production is sterile for sure but the music is fun.

nailed it. it's pointless maximalism that adds nothing compositionally.

At least this album gave us two great reviews.

I'll be the first to say jari is a clown but this is pretty decent. I'm just happy I finally got what feels like a real sequel to the self titled. Time I felt really far removed and oddly enough Time II feels more like the self titled 2
And yeah, production isn't the best but it doesn't bother me as much as it seems to bother others.

that's interesting, i think it's more similar to time i than the s/t. s/t was riffs riffs riffs and this is more along the lines of time i's maximalism.

The reviewer is just unfair. Critisism on the mix is understandable/justified. Saying everything is unlistenable and proceeding to give it a 1.5 is not. The reviewer acts like the album was delayed 15 year solely because Jari was busy sleeping with his wife.
- Mix could be less tiresome. Guitars and drums could sound more real.
- Some boring songwriting on One with the Shadows and Silver Leaves
+ Way of the Fire and Storm are very fun songs. Ominous Clouds is beautiful
+ Amazing guitar solos throughout
Verdict: 3.0-3.5. 3.5 to compensate for the whinery of this reviewer

This sounds somewhere in between self titled and time I to me. Not as riff heavy as the debut but still less over the top than Time I. It's also been a long time since I listened to time I so I may need a refresher
Parts of this also sound like they're pretty intentionally calling back to sections in the debut though. Storm outro gives me big time beautiful death outro vibes. Silver leaves sounds like a long winded follow up to death and the healing

Nice review. I appreciate the background information on this, because I've never really followed them.

Only on Sputnik can a fan of this type of music rate this shit a 1.5
Buncha negative nancies here

Will hold back any more commentary until I give this a fair shake, now that it is (finally) out. The thing is...I need to tear myself away from the new Amiensus record before that happens. Excellent stuff, that.

Wintersun (2004) is one of the very first metal albums I heard. I was about 11 years old when I discovered it, so around 2006. That album is a 4 for me. Excellent production, excellent songwriting, excellent instrumentation. If I put that album up against this one here, it is very clear to me which is superior. Literally every single aspect of it is better.
