The variation in the vocals is such a welcome surprise. Dude was already one of my fav vocalists of all time. This is just cementing that thought. Glad they took their time with this one cause it shows. A little less intense than previous albums but def sounding like their most cohesive/best flowing one yet.

My expectations for this were through the roof and they somehow managed to exceed them. Fucking GOAT band.

Ok yeah this really is a fucking insta-5 lmao. This feels like 10 minutes as opposed to over an hour. Its like one song flowing together. I love the chill interlude sections that are airy and almost ambient-esque before blasting your anus with warm yet intense riffage and the sheer emotion of the vocals, both clean and harsh. The progression they've shown on each album is insane. No Gospel is the perfect example of that. A 10 minute banger that shows the range of genres these guys have incorporated over the past decade. Absolutely insane bros. Ok I'm done now lmao.

First 6 songs are flawless also but No Gospel to Bodega Head might literally be the best 8 track run I've ever heard. Divination isn't getting mentioned enough. That track is a fucking emotional rollercoaster for being under 4 minutes.

Never liked this band but this album is already special.

Bodega Head is a hell of a bold move to conclude the album, I love it. And the solo is beautiful.

Okay you know it's the real deal when even Pika is on the hype train with no reservations
Also I agree Hawks, the first few songs are fucking amazing but from No Gospel on is just jaw dropping

I'm not a dyed-in-the-wool State Faults guy (I did like Clairvoyant, but not sure I've jammed it since the year it was released), this was very impressive on first listen.
Also, wonderful review YoYo, one of your best!

@bowlermicah that ending section with the harmonized guitars had me in disbelief the first time I heard it, that song is a masterpiece

Can we stop 5ing stuff on (pre)release day? It's not a good look. I am certain this is a great album given the band's history but to 5 something when it's been out for 15 minutes is just bonkers to me and screams recency bias.
