I really love Thou and I'm totally obsessed with Panic Stricken, I Flee. The poppy structure is very cool and can't even start on the 90s and 00s bands that come to mind. All in and under Thou's unmistakable ID and signature.

mmm you sure about that

Totally. Listen carefully With bands I meant metal bands, ftr.
I am also sure this is not their best, with at least Magus, Tyrant and Heathen ahead of it.

Yeah this rules but its also the least dynamic and poppiest Thou. I'd also say none of the tracks truly stand out, there's nothing as cataclysmic as Inward or Ode to Physical Pain here even if the songs are all very good bare minimum

Inward was actually my introduction to doomy Thou, I'd bought the '18 EPs (Rhea Sylvia and Inconsolable were my shit back then, it took me years to get into The House Primoridial but now its my favorite of the EPs maybe) and when I bought Magus and Inward started it was a revelation ngl, great song

This is phenom. The first record of theirs I’ve been pretty enthralled with from start to finish. Something about it makes it feel heavier I don’t know if it’s the crunch on the prod or what but I love this and when it hits it hits.
This gonna sell me on the whole discog now I’m sure

After a couple weeks of spinning this, and also taking time to review the rest of their major work, I am sticking with my 5.0. This album absolutely rips. Thou is my favorite metal band, and this is their best album for me. I love how they took their style and honed it down into something very digestible while not sacrificing any of what makes their sound so filthy and punishing; if anything, they intensified those aspects at the expense of the massive sound some of their other albums have. It's stunning to me how they managed to get more accessible and poppy, but also heavier and nastier at the same time. The Promise, I Feel Nothing, Panic Stricken, and Emotional Terrorist are all so go goddamn catchy and it feels like a small miracle that those catchy aspects are as present they are amid everything else. Many of the tracks I haven't mentioned feel more like their older stuff, massive and mind-bending in the very best way. I think the time they spent with these songs really paid off and it is their best sounding album yet in terms of production. I can't wait to see what they do next. Can understand why someone who is more inclined to post metal or more traditional sludge metal would like their older stuff more, but there should be enough of that influence here that most people are pleased, as seems to be the case. I'll be spinning this one for a long time.

yesss deadwing, this is my 2nd favourite Thou behind Magus
this is also still my number 1 album of 2024 after listening heavily to both Alcest and Ulcerate
the only potential challengers to number 1 left are Nick Cave and Blood Incantation, possibly the Fontaines DC. Hoping more great artists announce new albums
