this band's production has always been the perfect balance of grit and polish tbh, avoids all the pitfalls of overproduced tryhards trying to disguise their bedroom projects and lofi bollocks

this has grown a little on me, by and large prefer the riffs and (slightly scuzzier?) prod of Onryo II, and could live without the butt metal solos, shitty unplugged emo closer, and lazy schoolgirl death fetish in the lyrics/art -- not that this is any more/less distasteful than your standard violent metal subject matter, which i could give a toss about either way, but choosing to import it into the lexicon feels like an informed choice and rly rubs me the wrong way that the folk storytelling on their earlier stuff didn't. doesn't detract from the music, but as far as edgy bullshit goes it's a v unnecessary eyeroll prompt

but still a fun album. t/t goes ballistic hard, will keep this in rotation

The corny ass anime girl crying intro on track 3 is such a shame. The song is outstanding, but I just don’t wanna hear that. I am genuinely pissed at this dude for kneecapping one of the best songs of the year with such an unnecessary and obviously bad choice.

It’s not a sexualized schoolgirl, idk why it’d be nasty if it’s just a junji ito-y yokai / kneeling-towards-the-macabre pic, just my personal take since I do scrutinize the conceptual criteria of artists
