there’s a certain subset of modern electronic music that feels like it was made for people with “self diagnosed adhd” in their bio on 13 different social media platforms and this strays too far into that territory for me to handle

I think odal hit the nail on the head with their write up on the staff top 50 - it’s the way the tracks blend and blur into one another and refer back and forward to different moments in the album, makes it hazy and disorienting, but not in the completely bananas greebly way his earlier stuff does

"there’s a certain subset of modern electronic music that feels like it was made for people with “self diagnosed adhd” in their bio on 13 different social media platforms and this strays too far into that territory for me to handle"
I think when people are online a lot they start to place everyone and everything into these categories they create in their mind where every opinion of theirs becomes "x is for people who y" and it becomes very reductive and is usually not nearly as accurate as they think

or it’s just a novel and sardonic way to describe music that is all over the place with no clear direction on a music opinion website dedicated to music opinions.
|
| |
of all the things you could throw at this, not having a clear direction is a swing and a miss
and I've both seen adhd thrown around as shorthand + done it myself more than enough times to eyeroll at it or tiktok being "novel" descriptors

really trailblazing with that one

yeah but I chose those words specifically to illustrate a point that contemporary music on the “cutting edge” like electronic music has seen a trend in recent years where artists are specifically tailoring their music to audiences with reduced attention spans due to the overconsumption of social media, a trend which I hear on this album and intended to criticize.

his sound feels so carefully constructed and cohesive on this, even if there's a lot of movement within each song structure. it's cool if it doesn't resonate with you because of that but to insinuate his motives are as shallow as pandering to social media trends is a baseless claim imo. it sounds like you are projecting unrelated opinions about the overconsumption of social media onto something that has nothing to do with it. i bet if you could somehow view a chart of the social media habits of all this album's listeners, it would be all over the place

im as entitled to my opinion of this as you are to disagree with me.
it did spark a discussion did it not? i don’t see that as a bad thing.

if your only response when your opinion is scrutinized is to defend the right to hold the opinion (which nobody questioned) it's probably not an opinion offered in good faith. but yes you did spark a discussion by virtue of your shit take and I can respect your glass half full attitude around that

Maybe I engage with this a bit like how I'd engage with a remix album :S
Or maybe it's an album that has some big highs and then a sort of base level outside of that, tiny bit fatiguing, dunno
|

my brother in Christ I posted two whole paragraphs defending my criticism what more do you want
|

gonna gave to agree that this album is v carefully constructed within and between individual song structures, whole appeal here rests on album-long development of momentum rather than moment-to-moment things happening like the adhd core you're rather lazily lumping it in with (understandable for iglooghost bc neo wax bloom is a definition of that, but calling his sound here attention bait is reductive and off-base)
it is however a little draining

tried listening to this again last night just to see if my appraisal was faulty and it’s even worse than I remember.
at this point anything labeled “deconstructed club” (which is one of the worst fake internet subgenres) is unlistenable.
