Never really bothered for Attack Attack. But if you told me to listen to AA now without ever hearing it before, I would probably hate it too lol

Definitely in the minority here, but I really like the direction they are taking on this EP I'm more here for the catchy hooks than the crazy mathcore though, so that's probably why.

I'm definitely missing something with this band. Jammed this and their "acclaimed" album and it just seems so safe for mathcore. Maybe new one will win me over

This is a lot more avant-garde than your typical mathcore band tbh.

JR, having listened to everything you've listed to, I can't argue with you not liking the band. Maybe they're just not for you. You lose me calling them "safe" though. Closing a record with Star Baby that started with Violent Astrology doesn't strike me as "safe". Designer Shroud of Turin has like 10 genres mixed into one 5 minute song.

My first exposure to this band's music was yesterday so my thoughts are pretty fresh. Finding a lot in common w stuff I dig like Number 12, Dillinger, Fero Lux, etc but idk this isn't hitting me like I was hoping. I did have this same moment w Greyhaven last year and now I think they are pretty solid so maybe my opinion could change. I guess I just don't see what makes them stand out above others in the genre quite yet

Yeah, I know you said you hate the clean vocals. I love them and all of the poppy elements. To me they are such an important part of everything working together. So maybe you'll adapt to the cleans. If not, oh well. Seems like you're giving them an honest shot

I almost just said it myself, I almost view them as a pop band with interesting instrumentals to accompany it that end up being mathcore rather than a band that sets out to be mathcore, and I love that about them. And now I see Carson is saying something similar...
“It’s funny, I’ve been noticing that when we were trying to make the heaviest shit in the world, all I listened to was pop music. Now we’re trying to make pop music – I hesitate to call it pop music as there are still some breakdowns in those songs – all I’m listening to is the heaviest shit I’ve heard in my life. I really try to push myself as a vocalist and get better at clean singing every year that I do it because I don’t naturally have that ability. But I can come up with melodies all day; that’s what my strong suit is."

I'm all for some pop influence in my core, love the Blood Brothers to death. There's definitely a fine line for me w those more melodramatic vocals though. I have the same issue w this band vocally as I do w Circle Takes the Square for example. It's almost too much to handle lol. Appreciate you taking the criticisms fairly and bringing some good convo

Seems to be an unpopular opinion but I really fucking enjoy everything about this ep and like it more than CT. Absolutely fucking pumped for the new album as all the singles have been fantastic in my view
