I think metal bands in general should put more work into their aesthetic and that includes how they dress in promo materials, but I'm not mad about it when Tomb Mold just dress regular either lol.

I don’t know what most people in bands even look like, so definitely not bothered if they just want to dress in regular clothes. A lot of the more mainstream metal bands (and by extension, their fans) probably put more into their image than the actual music, so I’d rather it be this way around tbh

It depends on the artist, I think. For the likes of David Bowie, Prince, The Cure or King Diamond, the visuals are of great importance. In death metal, not so much, but it also has its own visual code.

my only opinion is that if you are in a metal band, you should be ripped no matter what. metal bands should be 2/3’s ripped dudes with massive traps who bench 300 and 1/3 fat dudes who can naturally squat 4 plates.
there’s no excuse to be a skinnyfat nerd. get in the gym and pump some iron.
