This thread has been a roller coaster of emotions for me. Pizza defending this album kind of warms my heart because I like more Otep albums than I dislike (don't judge me) but this album is a disaster, easily the worst thing she's ever made by a wide margin. And I'm a fervent defender of Hydra which has a 2.0 avg on here and is often considered Otep's lowest point. I really hope she bounces back from this, but these last 3 albums have been kind of a downward spiral. I really started souring on her with Generation Doom, but at least that was an actual album with actual songs. This one is scraping the bottom of the barrel and coming up wood chips. I used to really fuck with Otep and this gives me no pleasure honestly

Otep and Slipknot are both just noisy AF. I’ll never get the pickiness of peoples’ taste in nu-metal bands. They all sound like psychotic beasts in a field on drugs trying to make the noisiest shit possible lmao. Otep dares to talk about politics though LE GASP how annoying. Interesting that with System of a Down people will be like oh shit these guys are saving the world with their political talk, fuck yeah the band is god, etc. At the end of the day it’s all just noisy as fuck music

no SOAD actually wrote good songs and had the bonus of sometimes making decent political takes, otep has bad songs and boring liberal opinions that were barely edgy in white suburbs 20 years ago.

zaruyache couldn't have said it better myself, SOAD shit's on both Shitknot and Ocrap in my opinion. Plus not all Nu metal is the same, it has a variety of bands with different sounds and styles. Which is something I give Nu credit for. I would also like to argue the heaviness of the band doesn't automatically mean people will just flock to them. It's not just the Heaviness alone that makes the band good. It's how the band does the music all around that makes people like them. SOAD isn't just heavy they have a bit of variety to their style, a unique singer and catchy songs. (not just heavy ones) Their political messages isn't just raaww raww evil white man bad! raww microaggression! It's a bit more well thought out then that.

3. The generalizations are killing me for real. I am quite aware it’s not guaranteed that people will like Otep just cause she plays nu-metal and is heavy. My god. Not to mention that in the same breath that says Otep is shit, people can’t get away from the fact that she talks about politics. It always comes back to that. Just sayin’. But that’s all I’m saying because Sputnik is the perfect site for people to misunderstand everything people are saying, which is why I generally keep out of long arguments like this and let everyone else just get mad like usual lmao. I don’t want this, I accept other people’s opinions, I value them, and this is my last essay answer lol.
