This comes across as totally directionless to me. The majority of the tracks here just meander aimlessly. Wtf am I listening to in the first half of "My Eyes"? Doesn't even seem like he's trying to make good music half the time.

I wouldn't care if all his concerts were ritual sacrifices if he could put out something on the level of "3500" again. He won't though.

Even the tracks that sort of hit here just feel like a retread of something he already did better. I didn't particularly like Astroworld or Birds but still thought parts of them were great. This does nothing for me.

Modern Jam is pretty sick though except for the part where Teezo does a weird David Byrne inpression.

I'm glad some of you guys are digging this btw. I maybe shouldn't come in here and *just* trash it.

There's bits and pieces here where I see the appeal. What bothers me most about the lullaby that is the first half + of "My Eyes" to me is that it turns into something cool at the end that captures that really futuristic space vibe that Travis does well. I love Rodeo overall even though I find it very inconsistent. It had some tracks like this too - where the quality rises with a beat change or whatever. "Ok Alright" (which might be a bonus track but it should have been on the album) is the most obvious example. The first half is cool but the second half is fuckin divine.

But I like the first half of that track just fine. That's often not the case when that happens here (definitely not on "My Eyes" and not on "Lost Forever" either). Skitzo starts off killer and Yung Thug is great here, but then it turns into another meandering mess by the end. And I do feel like he's trying to be Kanye some here and I get they influence each other but it's odd how directly it seems like deliveries and beats etc. are drawn from him, particularly after he's already established his own style.

That first Teezo part really bugs me about Modern Jam which is a bummer - the little "If she let me in she gotta pat me down" part is my fav. That and FE!N are the 2 I like. I almost like Meltdown - the horn samples are really great. A little too much repetition that to me isn't catchy or interesting and too much whisper talking. And maybe it's because I've rinsed sicko mode a million times but the beat change at ~2:30 really feels like almost the same thing as the last sicko mode beat change.

Hyaena has a cool bounce to it and I can deal with trash lyrics but the way Travis is emphasizing and luxuriating in rhyming "Like I'm Kelsey Grammar" with "like I'm Chelsea Handler" is awfulness I don't think I've witnessed since Eminem's Relapse lol.

But I'll keep listening - Astroworld did grow on me some over time, though i liked it more from the jump. A couple recs that I love which people here are less likely to have heard (I think) - his "Escape Plan" single was not good but the B side "Mafia" I really love. Obe of his smoothest tracks which is sonething. Also a leaked Carti track "Houdini" that Travis features on (or maybe the other way around). That one might be hard to track down because those leaks get yanked from youtube pretty aggressively.

If you start the album at sirens instead of listening to all songs before it this album rules

It's even better if you start it after Til Further Notice and then listen to Rodeo.

"And Travis Scott cannot ride the beat. The whole time I'm listening to this I think "What if any decent MC had these beats" and I can't shake that feeling."

I very much disagree with this. This is one of the things Travis is best at, at least when he's operating at his peak. He misses sometimes but his sing-song delivery in his parts of "Skitzo" for example elevate that track so much higher than what most MCs would do with it.

"Rodeo sucks balls"

For me there's not a track here that's better than 3500, Nightcrawler, 90210, Oh My Dis Side, Maria I'm Drunk, or OK Alright. Skitzo could have been if about 1/3 of it was removed.

Antidote should definitely be in my little list there. If I were ranking Rodeo I'd put 3500 and Nightcrawler above it but there aren't many Travis songs I would.
