i think it's worth checking even if you're not into deathcore just because the stuff surrounding the shoehorned breakdowns is so cool (also a few of them actually fit p well). really hoping they continue to move further away from dc with their next release as it really feels like they're holding themselves back rn

Pain Remains but with people who know how to write a song. Great stuff, never listened to these guys before but I love this. Has touches of Slice the Cake at times.

I wasn't huge on this on first listen since the breakdowns gave me Pain Remains vibes but wow if this didn't become an earworm for me. I fucking love this.

This is actually super good. I thought it was starting to drag at Mortal Shells but the last 4 tracks totally change it up. Symphony of a Dying Star is a fuckin banger.
Whole band including the vocalist (incredibly) does sound a lot like Loran shore and I have to admit/agree, I think a bit better.

Pain Remains was like a 3.2/3.3 for me that I bumped up because Will Ramos is fucking incredible (and also a really good dude far as I can tell).
This is a 3.7 rn, pushing 4.

this dogwalks pain remains and its haphazard stop-start feeling on most songs that aren't soulless existence or the trilogy

I think the breakdown in Dying Star must be one of the best I've ever heard. Biggest problem with breakdowns is that bands don't know how to transition in and out of them but that one does both really well.

I get the same thing in this album, I find the breakdowns totally interrupt the momentum of the songs every time, and bring things to a screeching halt, could be a matter of getting used to it, but atm I'm just think it's better off without the breakdowns

The breakdowns here are definitely on the same song-derailing level as LS. It's very frustrating because everything else here is so damn good.
