I think he was very willfully being dumb. Country music has essentially sold itself out to pop music over time, but marketing it to a much different, though equally dumb, audience. Everyone knows this. As a lifelong country fan, I don’t respect anyone who likes this shit. It’s vapid, derivative, American propaganda.
