finn mckenty wrote this video in 2019 and it makes so much sense to me now, damn.
ive begun the process of not caring at all about what people say about certain - especially mainstream - bands and music acts but this is just another example of how important it is to break free from that "consensus" crap.

text in your review is on point IMO. the rating of 1 is pretty harsh. but then again Dream also gets excessive praise from the other side. this album seems to have made plenty of earlier critics of the band forget about hating the band. just create a (respectable) mess and it is almost like prog heads are forced to like it. prog > hate
will the critical acclaim translate to more people enjoying the band, or rock music, or unlock a new path? I don't think so. I am saying this because that was a significant talking point surrounding the album before it's release. (the state of rock&metal, how rock needs a life link, what is wrong within the gerne, how they draw inspiration from other genres, how other genres do better, break them rules you go gurrl). even though the front in these conversations was that it "doesn't matter how many people enjoy our music" (fck critics, fck how many people enjoy it etc.), in my opinion, the underlying intention or goal was to be the snowflake that "saves" the genre. you could notice how their minds were occupied by these thoughts. that was a yellow flag for me.
it has to happen organically. math didn't help rock/metal, it made it more niche. not that Dream is overly technical throughout, but it is extremely calculated in almost every aspect of the music and that is the opposite of rock an roll. let it fly more. let it fly

Some people get better as they age. Although I prefer the youthful exuberance of old Dustin Kensrue comes to mind.

[This makes Sleep Token sound like Pink Floyd. Also that nasally fat-faced, neck-bearded, mullet-headed fuck M. Shadows sounds like a bag of retarded cats. It's been over two decades and he's only gotten worse. Painful.]
