It’s not incredibly awesome music like Black Midi, no. It is pretty experimental at times. I feel like you’ll more than likely end up disliking a good chunk of this but find some things to enjoy

the "why" comparisons are pretty apt actually, definitely heard it on the vocals on some of these tracks.

some cool ideas, but it's got that grim (Midi-esque) mix of I Am Very Whacky conceptualisation vs limp noodle personality in execution. self-conscious experimental in-joke music for the nerdz

Johnny idk how a man can be so right most of the time but be so wrong about black midi. Granted everything you said applying to this, objectively I can totally see, but black midi doesn’t strike me as tryhard at all, just dudes having fun doing something they’re great at. This reeks far far more of that “gotta be experimental and weird” vibe

icecreamwitch and the lastmackerel are the highlights here and tbh pretty strong songs
a lot of the flair/novelty of most of these songs wears off after the first chorus - band usually set themselves up for a strong Third Idea or Part Where It All Comes Together and then just don't deliver it. could see them making a belter in future though
