'tbh you're right about the cover. it doesn't have that nature-inspired vibe of the rest -- lava blobs, eroded moon, etc. it just looks like stock artwork, and presages synthesizer-based writing in the worst way.'

The album is 'Holocene' which is defined by human activity so isn't the album art and heavier emphasis on the symphs is kind of the whole point as we're increasingly making the world artificial?

I think the art work and musical direction is perfect for this and I'm loving my listen through rn, Subboreal is fantastic.

The chugging that starts about 4 minutes into Parabiosis that's accompanied by the horns is so fucking good.

Hi demon!

This album does its thing with the concept of the epochs and how human influence has caused planet to burn. The album arts alright album art wise they dont really have any that are amazing just cool i guess. Overall you will love or hate this record as its the Ocean doing something a tad different. Itll either work for you or it wont

fantastic review mars, a pleasurable read.

On my second spin of this right now and the pieces start to fall into place for me, can see myself loving this a lot.

I wasn't too thrilled with the art either, but then I kept staring into it and it had a hypnotic kind of appeal. Beauty in simplicity I suppose.

I definitely prefer "Unconformities" but "Atlantic" is definitely a boss in its own right.

Just finished my second listen through and I love it, can easily see this growing to a 5. Atlantic through to Parabiosis is so good.

Excellent review Mars.

The last 2 were better than this one but this is still a nice journey, loving it so far.

Atlantic is the centrepiece for me so far. I really wish they didnt drop as many singles as they did

I know I've mentioned it enough already lol but "Sea of Reeds" was such a strange choice of single. Obviously they had to holster "Unconformities," but I think "Atlantic" would have been a much stronger candidate.

One of the other boreals would have worked as well. I wish they didnt release sub atlantic as a single in general. Parabiosis left me clinging and craving this record a tonne by itself, i didnt need the closer to be spoiled for me. 4 singles was a tad overboard

I think I had already heard the album a handful of times when it got released, so I was spoiled from the get-go lol

I think this comfortably sits at a 4 for me for now. It's a great listen but never really reaches the heights of the last 3 albums. Still a very enjoyable listen and again props to them for trying something different.
