Skipping through the album again. Midsummer's Eve is a pretty bad offender in terms of pitch correction. It's not just harmonies, there is more going on, you can hear it best on the faster melismata. It's a shame, because I have no reason to doubt the singers competence

A few too many key changes that ruin otherwise good moments for me on this (New Babylon being one offender). I get that it makes for dynamic songs, but most of the time they don't work for me, lol.

Damn this was fun! Definitely feels like a guilty pleasure kinda album tho lol Never listened to Kamelot before so I’m definitely gonna check out their critically acclaimed work. Solid 6/10
*edit* Holy hell didn’t notice the average was so high. Maybe not a guilty pleasure? Idk it’s pretty freaking silly haha, but still lots of fun. Stoked to check out their other stuff

Haven is the best Tommy era album the past two were okay but nothing gripping.

Been listening to this a decent amount lately. I've finally come to terms with the loss of Khan. It only took... jc, 13 years.

Maybe because it's probably the first album where Tommy sounds like himself.

That's a good point. Been listening to seventh wonder heaps lately, and it's pretty clear they asked him to imitate Khan pretty closely for the first couple of albums

Yeah they even made him do those tiny falsettos ala Kahn.

It's the slightly delayed, operatic enunciation that marks it for me. He doesn't really do that in Seventh Wonder at all, his style feels a lot brighter and... Mariah Carey-y lol

For some reason vocal centered music like this is really hit or miss for me. Not sure why exactly it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. Maybe it's dynamics.
And damn, Tommy really is a Roy Khan soundalike
