Young Gen Z'ers love Pierce the Veil for some reason. My niece is 20 and loves all their stuff and paid a bunch to see them next year.

Thankfully I caught them in 2009 when they only made music I liked so I'm content.

I don't think album is bad, it just feels like they are punching far below their weight in terms of songwriting. We know they are capable of so much more from structural and performance perspectives.

There's definitely some jams here, but it feels so domesticated compared to Collide and even Misadventures

^ it doesnt even feel like a domesticated version of those though. It just feels boring and different in a bad way.

Misadventures was a mess, at least this was pretty consistent and good for a chill listen.

Opening 3 tracks live up to Collide with the Sky levels of hype (Dive In, Texas Is Forever, The Divine Zero). Album also saw them dip their toes into poppier accessible tracks far more successfully than they did on this bland album with Floral & Fading and Circles. The rest is messy, but hey at least they had a > 50% hit rate there!

EDIT: to clarify I am talking about Misadventures here

The first 3 tracks are good but just kind of standard fare for me. Divine zero has that cool bridge though.

I actually like the albums more atypical songs for that reason because Collide just blew away their previous 2 albums in such a way the regular songs felt underwhelming to me. F&F, Phantom Power, Today..., Gold Medal Ribbon were all pretty fun and unique for them.

Its part of the reason I feel i wasn't as harsh on this album, they were diverting their sound in a way that felt they wanted explore, granted this album was still underwhelming and took almost a decade to come out so I'd be salty about that. I'm more of a casual fan, and Vic never really impressed me as a lyricist so that could be another reason.

I think Collide is alright but it feels like on those first 3 albums at least (I've only listened to Misadventures once or twice) that they were infusing so many different influences into the post-hardcore/emo sound. I'm cool with the grungier stuff on this album but it's all so straightforward and lacks hooks. The biggest issue I have is that the band is capable of being far more creative than what they put out here.

Fightstar was an insane show, just feels strange they did one show after years and now we're back to nothing again lol. It was a fantastic set though, Loathe supporting was also really cool to see.

Yeah this is definitely lacking creativity, even comparing it to their debut it just feels like a different band. So shallow.
