they have a style they stick to (with some variation here and there), but they have much better stuff. Try Raising Your Voice... Trying to Stop an Echo

If I’m being completely unbiased, yeah Chasing After Shadows and Raising Your Voice are better than this if you’re looking for not bland Hammock. I don’t even know if I’d call them as a whole completely original in their sound I just know that whatever they do they just knock out of the park every time.

Everything and Nothing is still a better version of this particular flavor of Hammock

Too early to say really but I think Everything And Nothing has higher highs

This is easily their best since E&N imo

There's a sister record to this, called From the Void, out mid October. They describe it as a bridge between this record, and their next LP direction. Two singles released.

Nevertheless is breathtaking. The first two tracks are a gut punch.

These guys put out 7 albums since E&N. 7 albums in 8 years. Nah, that’s way too prolific, I have almost no faith these are as good as their early stuff

That is an absolutely terrible mindset

yeah that's ridiculous - some bands are just more prolific and i say that as someone who does a new album roughly every 6 years. i think hammock's spacious sound lends itself well to being able to write new stuff more frequently.

They mean so much to me. Comments like that towards a band always seem almost malicious to me I dont get it. Also one record a year doesn’t equal REDUCED talent. With this as the exception their recent 8 year run as been more ambient based and can sound similar but that doesn’t mean their craft had diminished. They just settled into a bit of a groove.

It’s not that I’m being malicious. I like these guys too, but prolific ambient sounds pretty meh to me. How many modern prolific artist can you really say are incredible? Most of them come from the 70s, 80s, and 90s

i just find that take deeply cynical and frankly i do find most of hammock's work incredible. it's not designed to be impressive on a technical or constructive level, it's just really honest and sincere music that helps me a lot emotionally and that's all it needs to be.
i have a lot of personal connections with hammock songs - my dog died in my arms when listening to silencia and whenever i listen to it now i remember holding her in that moment that was unbeknownst to me the final time i'd cuddle her. shortly after my best friend died of suicide mysterium was the album i used to confront the confusion and despair - it helped me come to terms and find meaning in it all. there's a sincere vulnerability and sincerity to hammock's music that brings my guard down and allows me to process things i'd otherwise struggle with.
i think hammock are a difficult band to categorise for that reason because the music is clearly by design meant to be your own soundtrack. i find myself changing and growing with each release at the same pace. if there's any band i'd absolutely give a pass to being overly prolific it's hammock.
you could argue that anything can be the soundtrack to your own emotions and it's more of a situational and coincidential thing but i'm clearly not alone - a lot of people have the same connection because i really feel hammock's talent is conveying vulnerability and allowing you to bring your guard down. you can tell they're navigating their own complicated emotions at the same time as people and bringing people along for the ride in that voyage of confusing emotions and personal growth. i'm aware a lot of this may seem like hyperbole but it's honestly how i feel - long live hammock and their prolific artistry.

Yeah I’m so thankfully for how prolific they are. Yeah certain hammock songs help calm me down from meltdowns like Tape Recorder and We Are More Than We Are. As well as Without Form And Void.

yeah everything after E&N isnt all too interesting to me, cutting postrock out of their sound signature was a move for the worst
