It's mostly good, but I can't shake the disappointment after how great Starmaker was. Boots Mine Gold, Lake Song, Reflections, and Ain't No Cowboys are all very nice. Many of the others feel pretty slow and a bit uninteresting. Hopefully it'll be a grower

@anat I used to make fun of Brits for saying crisps instead of chips but i think it makes a lot of sense
But then i went to get fish and chips the other day and got these like, French fries that were literally flat and thin. And the guy was like yeah they’re crisps and i was like nah man. Nah

Honey, sounds awesome. Songwriting is mid several questionable stylistic choices and I still don't understand why you guys don't talk about how awesome reflections is
Also, I hear Dwight Yoakam every time I listen to honey

Tried “Reflections” in isolation and idk, it’s very good but definitely feels more like a rave-up intro than a particularly great song in its own right. Starmaker’s “Green Shadows” was kind of like that too but I feel it did a better job of enticing the listener into the album’s atmosphere.

Production has an earthy 70s vibe and it rules

Production definitely not the weakest element here, it adds a lot, when he genre switches it sounds authentic
Singing is also great, playing is fine
If there’s any major weaknesses here they’re in the writing and maybe the track flow, I think he’s trying to broaden his range and appeal and that’s worked but with a little teething

will give this more time bc i trust that there's more than meets the eyes here, but yeah i am definitely in the normie camp that is a bit sad that the atmosphere is so different from starmaker

Can't tell if I surprisingly like this more than Starmaker or if it's just immediate. Love the production, love the full band. This is really working for me. Y'all had me a little nervous but this is exactly where I want them to go after Starmaker. It was lightning in a bottle, trying to capture it again would have just been a poor imitation I think. This changes the sound just enough while keeping everything I loved about them initially
