I get what they're going for but it just doesn't work. Way too much time spent trying to be experimental with drawn out drone(ish) passages throughout and not enough time bashing skulls in. It's so fucking boring.

i feel like slower drone-y atmospheric stuff is always gonna be controversial in metal circles because they're fallen for the idea that all metal albums have to be all-gas-no-breaks
without slower moments and dynamic shifts it all becomes a blur so maybe i'll like the new one

I don't think it's a metal thing at all, but when you're expecting grind then yeah maybe it'll get some people's back up, for sure
The balance on this one was just right, they still used the atmo-segments / veered off into eerie noise territory without pummelling the listener constantly, but it worked. Latest one seems like a stretched, more black metal leaning version of that idea yet I haven't ascertained whether I enjoy the balance yet
