Thanks! I can understand that even if I don’t necessarily agree. I think the Melodie’s here definitely originate from a Deftones DNA where there are “pretty” melodies (such as those heard in “Gather Your Bones” or “Low Choices”) there are also more subtle, restrained melodies tangled in dissonance.
I also think a lot of these songs don’t give immediate pay offs and things began to separate and grow with repeated listens. It’s cliche, but I really think the more spins people give this, the more they’ll get out of it.

so I love all the songs a lot, but it’s a bit too much for its own good

Feeling the same way. The track list and songs themselves can be very long, even at 24 songs they average out to 4.5 mins each. I just think it’ll be very rare for me to listen to this in full

If there was anything I would’ve liked for them to trim down, it would have been an instrumental or two.

I will slap a 4 but maybe it will grow more. Glad these dudes came back with a vengeance. I liked their first album but I felt it was nothing to write home about. Need to revisit it now with more perspective.

Gather Your Bones is like Cherry Waves levels of good and I do not say that lightly

high praise, definitely one of the best cuts on this
I’ve been listening to a lot of Saturday Night Wrist lately, the sput rating under 4 is too low dammit!

Always happy to see love for Saturday night wrist. I know pink cellophane is a dud but the rest of the album is solid, also assuming we never get to hear Eros properly, it's a fine swansong for Chi.

I definitely agree that Saturday night wrist is the deftones album this sounds most similar to as well, maybe that and koi no yokan at times too.

SNW is the one, it’s a huge 5 for me. It’s probably a 5.5 and then Pink Cellphone drops it to just a 5 🤣

“Invisible Shine” and “Away Stars” conclude this beast so nicely. That ending riff on the former is gnarly.

If anyone could boil this down to the best tracks, what would they be?

SNW is best Deftones by a long shot agreed.

So far to me the best tracks are Gather Your Bones, Beyond The Sinking and Low Choices.

Shemson, totally agree those are some of the best of the best on here. I’m really impressed that the band picked some of the strongest songs as singles although “Low Choices” and “Beyond the Sinking” were no-brainers.

I want to like this more than I do. Releasing this length of material at once is a little self indulgent IMO.

Getting some modern-era melodic Norma Jean vibes from this in addition to the obvious Deftones and Thrice influence.

This is closer to the melodic side of Loathe than Deftones, IMO. Deftones seems like a lazy comp when some of the guitar atmospheres are similar, little else.

I disagree. Loathe has like, a handful of melodic songs to their name. Deftones has a whole catalogue. Stylistically, Vexes also share those sometimes heavy moments of Deftones yet never come close to the aggressiveness that Loathe show rather consistently.

This is way more exciting than anything Loathe have ever put out
