every pinegrove record must be 0.1-0.2 lower than the one before until the world inevitably forgets about them i don't make the rules here
but i don't think this deserves a whole 0.2 lower than marigold this is a generous prediction

This is the first Pinegrove that has gripped me, which is kind of surprising because they seem like exactly my kind of band. Orange is an easy highlight so far

Saw them live once because I heard they were supposed to a great live band and it was . . . Underwhelming. Not bad, but just middle of the road live show. I never get this listening to their stuff, but live they sounded so much like Death Cab for Cutie. Singer’s voice was a dead ringer for Ben Gibbard, everyone I was there with said the same

but yeah the way the vocals and bass sounds on this is super satisfying. Iodine, So What, Swimming and Cyclone are just so satisfying to listen to with good headphones. the last 4 songs are really strong in general. album is a grower too I feel

The first 3 tracks are pure gold, for sure. To me, there's a lull in the middle, but it finishes strong.

I think Alaska, Respirate and Let are slightly weaker than the rest, everything else is pretty much gold

The bass on this is the best of any Pinegrove so far. They really found the balance between the country and more mathy stuff here too. This may end up my favorite we’ll see

yeah the bass is really nice. there's one little groovy bass lick on So What that cuts through the mix perfectly and is super satisfying

It’s super satisfying bc my one small complaint with amperland production was that the bass was hard to hear a lot and now on this every instrument comes through so clear when it needs to

I wish more reviews were like this. I quite enjoyed reading it even if I probably wouldn't enjoy the album
