I still really haven't given this much of a chance despite loving Debut, Post and Homogenic.

Oh man me and Colton have the same 5/5. In other news I can’t believe certain prominent users haven’t even heard this. Thought this would be a Ega/dedex staple!

Love it when artists transcend trip-hop percussion by not using any at all, inspired move if ever there was one

Woah this review is like so so good

Also question re last paragraph though, to what extent can it's legacy really be pinned down in a thread of forward thinking art-electro-pop artists when the sort of attitude that you can kind of see a shared lineage with Vespertine in also makes it so that the specifics of that lineage are also inscrutable?

Like, you do a great job setting up how foundational a record this is that you can't really even sniff in that direction without comin' up Vesper, but then would that also mean that trying to delineate a question of legacy and influence at all is the wrong question to be asking? Feel like things like Heirloom are so gorgeous because it makes anything outside the precise insularity of the moment seem irrelevant, y'know?

‘Love it when artists transcend trip-hop percussion by not using any at all, inspired move if ever there was one’ (2).

I’m a trip-hop Stan but am absolutely on board with this. Next level skills.

It's gonna be listened to very soon!

"Homo purists dont get Vesp tbh"

Wouldn't call myself a Homogenic purist so maybe I'll dig it?

Hang on isn’t motiv from the early 00s or something? Respect anyway because I’ve noticed you on my old thread trip-hop travels. I think. Well it was probably you.

I don't listen to Trip Hop much but yeah I used to be a lot more active on this site from about 08-14. There was a period where I lost interest in music so I stayed away.

Probably more of a general ‘electronic’ thing, most of the threads have like three pages anyway 😄… just didn’t expect to see you around.

Getting back into it music then?

Nah Vespertine is Vespertine and it wouldn't be as powerful a record as it is if it didn't feel all consuming and by-itself when you're bumping it (I.E. for such an erotic record this ain't ever going in a sex playlist).

Like you can say it stands apart from Bjork's discog even with shared elements, but you can also say it stands apart from records that took its influence by trying to keep pushing new boundaries rather than just cop its sound (which is basically impossible to do anyway), but the very nature of pushing those boundaries makes it tough to pinpoint where exactly those influences lie, and it becomes easy to point to this one just because it's such a HUGE record in the scene that there's no way there isn't some sort of influence there. Mostly think the question of Vespertine's legacy isn't the question that gets you close to why it's such a brilliant album, moreso than other brilliant records. He's still inside me.

All about the internal

Have been the last year or so properly or semi properly I should say. I try not to burn myself these days like I definitely did in the past haha. I have to be a little more selective with what I listen to or try than a lot of users on this site. At least I feel that way.
