I will check this out at some point, but I am hoping it is something just a little greater than old rock worship.

Definitely not for me, but I think that most of the hate that these guys get is totally reactionary and mindless. They're definitely talented, great at the style that they aim for, and to me, it's hardly any different than someone like Steven Wilson's prog revivalism. People want their 70s itch tickled, and I guess that this does the job.

"People want their 70s itch tickled, and I guess that this does the job."

Mmm, if only there was already an entire decade's worth of music that accomplished that :/

In all seriousness though, I think that if this had been their debut album they wouldn't have seen nearly as much backlash. This is just well-made-but-kinda-lame retro rock, whereas all their earlier stuff was completely unadorned LZ worship with no alterations or twists. People can generally vibe w/ throwbacks but blatant copying is something most folks have a really deep-seated distaste for, and not unfairly so.

4.0 rating on a GVF album? High much?
