Defenses don’t mean shit if they ain’t severing ties and actively denouncing. Otherwise they’re just trying to take the heat off and avoid scrutiny. Words are fucking cheap.

True enough, words are DEFINITELY fucking cheap and acting on what you believe in is far more important than what you can say.

It's not like they've been backpedaling or something either though. I'm only putting two and two together. They only have like 3 public statements in the last 20+ years to go on. They weren't really trying to defend themselves from backlash either in the Bardo interview. Probably in lieu of the Mikko controversy when Furnaces dropped, they just took care to mention that people within the collective have some vastly different views and that they, the main creative forces, are staunchly anti-authoritarian. They didn't even mention anyone's name considering they're still all anonymous, even though it's pretty obvious Mikko's in the group. It's honestly a pretty interesting read, if you ever have the time. It's way long, though lol

"Oh sweet Jesus fuck that’s in the mix too?"

his old power electronics/w.e project is sketchy. those types of projects are almost always all about being offensive and "boundary-breaking", and his old proj had like cover artwork about like sex trafficking victims (ie children) or something

Yeah, Whitehouse, Brainbombs, Boyd Rice and Deathpile do similar shit. A lot of noise projects are literally about the shock/edginess of it. Like Deathpile have pictures of murder victims on the covers and shit, and all those projects sing from the perspectives of killers and predators pretty often.

But it's not like Mikko gets excluded from being a piece of human garbage for probably not being a real life pedophile, cause he's obviously that regardless.

He sure doesn’t, ‘cept from the rest of those kindly DsO members that keep giving him an elevated platform.

yeah hearing my favorite black metal band has a nazi in it wasn’t fun.

I honestly don’t understand why they still have that fucker in there. He’s talented, sure, but he’s nothing too special.

Curious about how DsO’s last album was antifascist if anyone wants to elaborate. Don’t really feel like there’s any valid excuse for using a nazi pedo as a vocalist personally, especially when it’s been for their entire career. Being ostensibly anti-authority is super common with fascists in black metal or in general.

Have you never had to work with somebody that you really did not like for some kind of benefit? I can't speak to it from being them but, from reading their interviews, it's like their music is so important to them that they want it to exist the perfect way at all cost. Is that a bad thing? Probably, or at least it becomes so when you do collab with a nazi cause he's got a good scream.

And I agree, there're probably people as good that they could get to replace the fucker. But then part of me is like, that's the DsO sound. I could very well be a child that just wants to hold onto my precious Deathspell, too. lol I'm just talking here.

@Game: All of the lyrics in Furnaces were written to parody fascist ideals in a sort of Orwellian dystopia. It's sung from the perspective of the villain but they're painting it out as if to say "This is insane. This is wrong." It's clearer if you skim through that interview I linked earlier in the thread.

I mean I don't focus on the lyrics when I listen to Deathspell, but my personal interpretation of the record was that it is about the rise and fall of an authoritarian regime.

and I agree wholeheartedly, I'll still listen to the band's music but they'll never get a dime of my money as long as he's in the band. I bought Kenose secondhand before I knew about all that nazi bullshit

Sure, Ive worked jobs with people I don’t like but none of them have been fascists that I know of lol. Dude is like the most generic vocalist on the planet, it’s so easy to replace him.

Feel free to keep listening to them tho, I do. But I don’t really buy any of their excuses and the last album title plus associated imagery they used seems pretty dogwhistly to me.

But I may be wrong. From what I remember that interview is nearly unreadable just from how much stuff they ramble on about that means literally nothing but maybe I’ll take a closer look sometime. The lyrics were likewise nearly impossible to make sense of.

Well okay. Is it really really dense? Yes! Is it full of concepts and overlong rambling about art hipster garbage? Absolutely! Is it unreadable? Absolutely not. I'm exactly the kind of piece of shit that ate that interview up, word for word.

They actually turned me onto reading Georges Bataille, and it's pretty cool stuff.

Most people only take it seriously in their teens, after that it's a matter of musical aesthetics, I think. I never met a real satanist.

Except maybe Hawks
