Ah okay, I didn't know crossover was exclusive to that sound. Appreciate it

I mean obviously it’s interchangeable for other crossover genres but I think generally that’s what people mean out of any sort of context when they say it

These guys used to have that tag but I'm not getting a whiff of thrash out of this

Yeah, it isn't thrash, but they had been previously tagged as crossover. That's what I said lol

Not sure how familiar some of you are with santa cruz. I live here, and tried participating in the scene, but there's a serious kool kids klub vibe here. You can't sit at our lunch table kind of stuff. If it's not east coast chugs they will actively hate you haha! I wish it wasn't like that. They just want more drain. Before my band even put anything out, they were already shitting on us. serious politics going on.
Not from Santa Cruz in particular but am from Cali and know how it is there. For such a progressive state a lot of the scenes are extremely closed-minded and ignorant tbh

Unfortunate to hear. Anyone coming out of there worth checking?

Is it great? Not really, but it is a lot of fun. I wish we had a non-rating "is fucking fun".

I think fun hardcore has been produced better than this, but whatever floats your boat.
Even though beatdown goes in one ear and out the other, this album would benefit from packing more of a punch. Always criminal to have such a minimal bass presence. You need those grooves and you need that low end if you're going to use a fair amount of breakdowns.

record is fun in the dumbest of ways and the vocals remind me a lot of rotting out. Somehow the hardcore scene really is sleeping right now. Maybe I've just grown out of it but can not think of anything remotely fresh coming out in 2019 and 2020
Recs are welcome

I can’t tell if Drain wants to be a crossover band or a mosh band. The vocals are the worst part of the band. They seem really cool live and would check them out but this record is a big no from me. Good review.

CA hardcore prove once again theyre only good at trendy mimicry and cheap imitation. Youd think one of the 6 bands these members are in would have an original idea.

100% can confirm this is exactly how this scene is. 12/15 dudes telling everyone what’s cool, Sunami being the biggest example of a band that would get clowned to death if it were anybody but those people.
