I think you either buy into the whole album or you don't - what did you make of last year's one? Thought that was second best after this.

I like his earlier stuff, 'Replica' is impeccable in what it does, 'R Plus Seven' fatigues me a bit but its a good album

'Age Of' was a lot closer to a bad album if you want to find a bad OPN

yeah, to me this album is a dubiously designed led installation with too much black plastic lol

i don't think there's an OPN album i really love, but some points of Replica definitely grip me (and is much closer to the glitch albums i tend to jive with) and i can respect R Plus a fair bit. wasn't sold on the last one, but honestly i spent so little time with it that i couldn't expand on why

skipped Age Of, and would rather go back to check Zones Without People, curious what he was like pre-Replica

a jumbled anonymous mess of plunderphucking bullshit. he has no identity any more and is just lost in this space of obscurity trying to please people who glorify terrible idm like autechre as some kind of deep sentiment towards technology and the current state of art when its actually just a bunch of nonsense that detracts from its own enjoyability by intentionally skewing any semblance of conformity to structure and it just results in a passive and fleeting listen where every redeemable quality is immediately discarded in favour of terribly utilized glitch feltches and sharts. of course that makes it perfect for the type of person who needs to seek some sort of subliminality in modern electronic music and replace blind worship of any sort of god instead with the blind fanboyism of shitty plunderphucknics

Are you allowed to enjoy this, yet also find fault with it…

or is that not enough of a hot-take these days?

idk this sounds pretty cool but it is mostly aesthetic, sometimes that’s okay 🤷‍♂️

this is basically a skitty grab-bag of occasionally interesting moments, so that sounds like the ideal approach

still need to check older OPN feck

I think he jumped the shark here, and the movie soundtracks suck in a similar way. he's still cool, a lege, just no longer making music I like

magic opn was pretty decent imo. not anywhere near his older stuff but a decent return to form.

Should give that 1 more of a chance—although even Age Of was p different from this and ultimately :/ (thought I liked it at first)
