State Forest is so close to being Spa Music I can almost smell the eucalyptus

State forest is burial taking on ambient whilst devoid of any elements that make him interesting and unique iirc
|
| |
Yeah that's pretty accurate. Not a bad track but nothing amazing. First 3 songs are a bit hard to get through, probably going to mess with the tracklist a bit to see if I can come up with something more digestible

Sounds like field recording shit to me. Think state forest is a nice track though, find beachfires vastly less interesting in that regard.
|
| |
Like, I think after a huge track like Come Down To Us or Ashtray Wasp I wouldn't mind a bit of filler ambient stuff
|
| |
I didnt care for these first 3 tracks the first (and only) other time I heard them. sub temple and state forest I'm not minding this time around but yeah beachfires is one of the least interesting burial songs I've ever heard
|
| |
Yeah Beachfires is just a huge miss imo. Not sure what I think of Subtemple. A bit too long for what it is, think at like 3 or so mins it could have been a decentish interlude-y track

Hiders onwards is basically all fantastic stuff. I do enjoy Nightmarket and Young Death also, altho the latter less so
|
| |
Honestly that trio flowing into Young Death ended up working for me all things considered.

Does this sound like a city

There's ambience in them though?

Btw Deviant this review is huge, definitely one of your best.

There is ambience there but they're a bit more involved, you know? Not quite as formless, more built around melodies and acting as segues from one section to the next. I might warm up to the opening trio of songs after a while, I just think they could maybe be shuffled around a bit. Other than that I have no gripes with this, it's just a bunch of really solid material. Also agree with you that a lot of this works better now with more build up

I think I have that comp
|

Is that enya?
|

"think I have that comp"
And I still owe you that massage ;]
|

This is getting a bit too heterosexual for my liking

Have you guys heard vacant or volor flex? The former is like burials smoothest stuff but a bit more sterile and deeper, and the latter is the closest thing you’ll get to untrue albeit inferior

Both are good. Throw in early Klatu, Irrelevant or Desolate as well. Problem with Volor is that he openly admitted to aping Burial. He does it well, but it lessens his musical integrity
