They're actually back to making folk metal again. There are definitely still some influences from this sound and its a lot more metalcore/melodeath than bm like before, but it riffs extremely hard and the atmosphere is epic as hell.

Renegades > Equinox tbh
At least this is kinda fun and nakedly different, the new one is trying to blend both sides and it’s so middle of the road, safe and boring that it swallows the momentary joy when anything actually works for a minute. I’d rather jam this.

Nah I stand by it, this is wacky and far from their best, but it’s at least trying something, and y’know what if they want to be the symphonic Alestorm now then go ahead. The new one is comparatively tame, boring, middle-of-the-road and lame. At least Armageddon’s cheesiest moments like Born to Be Epic had some backbone, like the stupid flute breakdown. That’s fun. This doesn’t sound anything like old Equilibrium, but that’s fine, it’s not trying to be. Totally get not digging it though. Equinox doesn’t know what it wants to be and so it does nothing very well. There are a handful of cool ideas on there that are absolutely wasted because they immediately transition into boring mainstream nothing-ass riffs. I’ll return to this or Armaggedon before I listen to anything from Equinox again.

Armageddon absolutely rules. Everything up to and including Armagdddon rules actually. I agree with most of what you said about Equinox, but I do think the folk parts are well done on that album. Agreed about the boring mainstream metal riffs though, thats the downfall of the whole album.
