ngl yip nails this thing the rhythm section (especially the bass) sounds terrific and the burying vocals thing works really well for these guys since the repetitive lyrics are what made abandoned piss me off so much and since they dont seem to want to know how to change that, making it less distracting certainly helps them

Yeah honestly. Normally it would be detrimental but the bass and drums are fucking POWERFUL here so its p w/e.

That rhythm section is so nasty, they've always had some incredible groove to them. It seems like the band really wanted to intentionally leave the story be hard to discern this time around so I guess the vocals match that feeling. I agree that I would've liked them to be just a tad higher in the mix though

Thanks Odal.

Their sound has always been pretty solid that's why it's frustrating they continue to write about the same stuff. If they released a Defeater album with a different concept I don't really think anyone would care.

Finally giving this a listen. It’s def not on the level of Travels, Lost Ground or Empty Days but I’m digging it.

Only two tracks in and so far and as usual the musicality is good.

Totally agree, JAV. it's weird how little I find myself caring about the concept despite liking them alot when I love Coheed and think part of that band's appeal is their absurd commitment to their various concepts. It's probably because of how seriously the band takes it and the fact that they are so tight-lipped about it

The previous album before this was so boring, but this one has much more life to it. I wish they would drop this concept now though and make something else, even if I do enjoy this.

this is a huge bounce back from abandoned. took a while to grow on me but pretty solid effort, might even 4 it.

They never left imo. Great discography top to bottom, but I do understand that people got tired of the concept by Letters Home.

abandoned is not good. other than that, every album is dope and this was a huge bounce back.
