As a musician, I can tell you that bands don't make any money (of note) off of physical releases anymore, unless they are like super famous. If you are a bigger band with a bigger label than the first x records you sell go 100% to the label to get their investments back on the money they fronted for your studio timd etc. Spotify and the like are great ways to get your music out there, but pay so little that you can never get a sustainable income that way (not their fault imo, their sub and add revenue is just not high enough). As a band, you make your money by playing shows that pay decently (a problem all on its own) and hope to do well at the merch. Its just the modern reality and thats okey, there are simply too many bands to choose from. You want to have the band get some money? Go to their concerts, buy their merch and become a patron. Most of that money goes straight to the artists themselves.

Another problem is that a lot of bands just handle money poorly. They want to stay in 4 star hotels and put their money in 10 roadies and techs when they could also just sleep in the nightliner and do a lot of things themselves.

That’s cool when you’re teen...that “we against the world” vibe will soon end

Just jammed again. This is one of the best post-bm albums I’ve heard. Perfectly done.

"It’s almost impossible to be a professional musician these days", thats true in a way, but today there are a hundred times more people trying then there used to be, so it is not that illogical. It does suck though, I agree. Only the truly comitted get there these days, and not even all of those do.

Answer - hit the road...your music has to be free to reach as much ppl as you can so you can do that proffesionaly. Otherwise practice it and have fun with it as an hobby.

My fave deafheaven is new bermuda - the one with actual cool riffs and I got a lot of those vibes on those first tracks.
