It's only the booklet in the special edition. I think on the standard the white part is just a card sleeve.

looks like concept art for an early access survival rpg

Owh glad my edit of the cover got accepted. Like this cover way more than the other one lol.

I know this album is supposed to be a combination of what he's done, but I think if he chooses to follow the same direction, and takes this sound to the next level, he might be onto something truly special. Haters gonna hate

I noticed a dip in quality after the first four DTP albums, especially with Epicloud. Devin's best albums since the end of Strapping Young Lad have been the more experimental ones (Ghost, Casualties of Cool, arguably Addicted).
Empath is experimental in approach but he still draws on old sounds, for better or for worse. The weakest parts on this album for me are those that sound like Deconstruction part 2.

Have you actually seen the proper cover?
It looks like a cgi from nick jr

there is no card sleeve, even the deluxe edition is just your standard jewel case

It's not though, it's a card sleeve with a card digipack type thing. I own it, I know. See the link above.

Sprite is beautiful I think people are sleeping on it because of the cheesy intro. Also, I think that story is the same story being read in the middle of Canada from Terria.

Explain what this beautiful deluxe card sleeve in my hand is then?
"Also, I think that story is the same story being read in the middle of Canada from Terria."
Bingo. Was waiting for another Devy nerd to notice this. Think it was one of his favourite childhood stories. There's a similar, more morbid story at the start of SYL (the song)

Devin's reasoning with the white sleeve is that the simplicity contrasts the offputting chaotic nature of the music and that the full artwork is sensory overload.
|
| |
@Dizchu yes, he just posted a video saying the first cover was supposed to be that super overloaded big image with animals.

The one with the animals is pretty appropriate because it's super overloaded.
