Saw these guys and Leprous at a festival this year. Haken were fun and interesting, unfortunately, Leprous were meh. The vocalist was constantly singing, left no room for the music and all those high pitched notes were too much. Also, I found the songwriting more fluid on Haken's song.

That’s a shame but I fucking love Leprous’ vocalist so I’d be into that. I’ve heard Leprous are great live though.

Wasn't impressed tbh. I saw Arcane Roots, Zeal and Ardor, Steven Wilson, Mogwai and a couple of smaller bands at the same festival here in Romania. Taking Steven Wilson and Mogwai out of consideration since they've been active for 20+ years and sounded awesome, Leprous were the only band that was disappointing. All others were more interesting/sounded better. During Haken's set their vocalist came to sing some growled lines, it was great. The next night when I heard he was doing constant soprano impressions, I was kind of disappointed. Plus, the sound wasn't top notch during their set (and I assume they brought their own sound guy). Anyway, I'll check some of their stuff out, so I won't just dismiss them based on a performance.

You dismissed Leprous you mean? You totally should case they can be quite stunning.

This may be Haken's most consistently great project. They will probably never top The Cockroach King with any singular song, but I think this is a better album than The Mountain, all things considered.

Yeah, it kind of kept me away from listening to their stuff, but I will check them out since a lot of people here praise them

Got to see Leprous twice and out of all the bands I saw they had the greatest live sound, just orgasmic all the way through. Seems like you caught them on a bad day.

So I thought Good Doctor was like the "Cockroach King" of this album just cause it's kinda quirky and catchy, but did you all notice the shared lyric? "An empire falling to its knees" and "bring an empire to its knees." Wonder if their's an intentional connection.

I think it's just generic lyric writing

Would be pretty cool, but I think the line 'An empire falling to its knees' is just a supergeneric line in general
