His voice was extremly sweet and versatile, sadly in the Sabbath/Dio years he'd start to "growl" a lot in live concerts, I've never been a fan of his live voice after Rainbow

yeah, I love his studio voice during the 80's, is the live voice I don't like



Live Evil is a nice live album, Dio does an excellent work covering Ozzy-era songs, but songs like H&H actually sound pretty bad for me live

Check out At Donington UK: Live 1983 & 1987. His performance on the first cd is great. He adopted this gruff in the mid 80s I think.
