I would just like to add that Marcel Duchamp actually did draw a moustache on the Mona Lisa in the early 20th Century and it was considered outlandish and daring

Aye, totally get that man. And I'm all for a simplistic approach to writing, it's just I find it pretty underwhelming a lot of the time. Of course, this is DEG we're talking about and I might sound really harsh on this, but the bar set previous is impossible to overcome and is going to get comparisons and a harsher critique because it.

The thing is, they've burst that perfect bubble now, so it'll be interesting to see if they stop here -- like Jas has said before -- because they've hit the "10 album mark" or if they'll continue to make more music. I'll be honest, it'll be a damn shame to leave the band on this note if they do, but I don't know if they've got another album in them.

To me, I see TIW like one of their kinda experimental messy-disturbing albums (like were TMOAB, Vulgar). These albums which go in all directions, despite the suffering of our ears, of our past-love for the band. And each time, something new, better structured and more mature comes after the mess. So, I will personnaly wait for 2-3 years (again !) crossed-finger for a new main step in their carreer o/

NB: Speaking of Values Of Madness, guitars on this song remind me the taste of some WTD tracks. I'm a bit nostalgic so I like this song

Honestly, this is my next favorite Diru album after the big 3. I think if this album had come out right before Uro, the reaction might've been a bit different but I definitely understand people's criticism of the record. But if I wanted to get someone who'd never heard of Diru into any full length project by them, this is what I'd show them.

interesting. I have not yet managed to detect all the melodies, all the rhythms of each track of TIW. I have not yet understood the overall structure of this album. I find it very difficult to access.
Lately I made discover DIRU to 2 friends, with Uroburos. But this is perhaps not the best choice of album: the proof I have no more news from my 2 friends: D

For newcomers wanting to immerse themselves in the Dirubrary, I'd rec either GAUZE or Arche to start with. Maybe throw in Vulgar, too.

Y'all mean big 4, because Unraveling Deluxe edition is their best work ;)

"I think if this album had come out right before Uro, the reaction might've been a bit different"

That is definitely true. Although it is quite telling that it is that easy to imagine it in that place. I think this album succeeds as a noisy albeit catchy record of angry metal, but it fails as a follow-up to their creative journey up to this point. From that perspective it feels like an afterthought. As a stand-alone record, it's good enough, but lacks the emotional depths of previous releases.

(My rating for this will be so boring.)

I think if they were a little more prolific, this would go over better. like people would be more accepting of a more straightforwardly heavy record if it wasn't the first album in 4 years and the last for the foreseeable future. the lead-up to a new Dir En Grey album is always so long, so drawn-out and anticipating that it's hard not to be disappointed by an album as bare-bones as this compared to the last few.

Yeah, the wait must've been harder for those not too invested in their concert Blu-rays and Kyo's other band.

All I really wanted from the new album was something to bridge a gap between the last three+Gauze and the rest and it kinda did just that.

@Angel Arche is my fav album and the only other album I'd use as an intro to Diru but I think GAUZE and Vulgar are a bit too out there. Speaking as a Westerner with a fairly unsophisticated taste in music, I would not take well to GAUZE or Vulgar as a first entry into this band's discography. Not saying that what I feel is definitive of how a normie would feel, but the melodies and musical musings here are much easier to digest than on those two.

@Calc nah, Arche is bae (;

@Rik/Hell/Evo 100% on all fronts.

I'm not really interested in gimmicks, but I guess it doesn't hurt to try though.

I don't think they're a gimmick though so that helps

Back on topic I still need to listen to this
