there are no doubt many problems with the review but i'm tired of apologizing for knowing words that mean specifically what i want them to. and like there are "context clues" and none of you strike me as dim, i don't think it's a stretch for someone who might not be familiar with the word to grasp the meaning.
and i've made this point but in many ways i wish we didn't *have* to affix a rating to a review. this is just an angle to broach it from among countless others

i obviously disagree hard but this is a very good review, i was surprised how popular this album was among people who liked product, it is extremely different and almost everything product does right this does wrong - this is not concise, pop, or clear (in my opinion this does a whole bunch of other things right but that's more subjective of course). glad to see someone expressing this because otherwise we've just got an obnoxious crowd of people like me. product is still my favorite but i enjoy artists i love whimpering from time to time

I actually think this review is genius. It uses the full scope of his vocabulary which may appear unnecessarily convoluted at times, but if you really focus and read the thing, it's quite eloquent. I've never understood the "too pretentious" argument as long as the review makes sense; this does. I took Wines' write up as, intentional or not, a very accurate portrayal of what it's like to immerse yourself in this album. Intimidating at first glance, but with all kinds of underlying beauty. Perhaps the only thing I disagree with is his final score, but even that I totally get because this record sounded hideous and overly mechanical to me at first.

This is the way I write on every first draft of anything. Then I go back and realise that shorter, one idea sentences are way better in terms of readability and message and then i re-write and end up with a much better bit of text.
Re-write and this would be a good review. Now it's a mess

This isn';t like a thesis at all. PhD theses are written properly, without all this fluffy crap. Its purpose is to impart information and be readable. Over complicated structure and poor flow is poor scientific communication
Stop embedding lists into sentences that already have an object! It's super clumsy. SO is throwing in embedded clauses in every other sentence. Just rewrite them into two simple sentences that follow on from each other. It reads better. An embedded clause should be done for a reason, not just because that's how you likle to write!

What's the big issue with the review? It isn't better or worse than most (if not all) reviews I've read or seen. Does it sound convoluted? Because it's not like people can't understand it, if I can, anyone who speaks English can.
