"in general his tunes have always been a bit too focused on utility and sound design for my liking"
what do you mean by this? doesn't being heavily focused on utility within the contexts of electronic almost contradict being too focused on sound design? either way, this is his first album that is overtly focused on sound design. dude was pretty much just making deep house before this...

I just don't think music primarily focused on sound design is often very rhythmic, which dance music is. and i can't think of a more utilitarian genre than dance music lol. i'd agree on his previous releases utility as been more and more focal but the focus on sound design is vastly less emphasized than on this one, in which i'm not sure what the utility would be at all. And no I'm not being hyperbolic in saying that this change of direction with Nothing Is Still, in a similar way to Lapalux's Ruinism and Amnioverse, is the vanguard of modern electronic music. That is my opinion. This album alongside with the other two mentioned and the trajectory of artists like Amon Tobin with their electroacoustic work are the epitome of what the future of electronic is for me. And I'm not alone in the thought, I've discussed this at length with several of the most talented producers in my life and we have settled on many of the same albums being reflective of this idea. if you can't see the innovations of this or the other albums I've mentioned there is nothing I can do to open your mind to what I hear, but that is my own personal - and certainly not inexperienced - perspective.
"leon's songwriting/production/engineering skills have always outpaced his own musical ideas, and while this record is certainly an improvement on that characteristic, it's also not an exception"
oh but it is.

I never said he was one of the best artists in electronic, im specifically singling out this record. And i never said it was one of the best electronic albums ever made either, but this record definitely is one of the best electronic records of the latter half of the 2010s at least for me which is the only relevant decade given the context of what I'm saying. We are arguing semantics i think. I never said he was cemented in the vanguard I speak of either. I just said this particular album is a part of it / reflective of it for me. Who knows maybe he will not continue this direction and ruin it but judging by the two new songs I doubt it.
Anyways I told my electronic guru BFF what you said and we are now bitching about you in instagram dm's and I hope you lose sleep over it

vynehall always had this special touch to his works since ‘14

where does dr octogonapus rank on the site's electronic repping scale
|

"@pots ah ok. i think maybe i misinterpreted what you meant by him being firmly planted in the vanguard. or perhaps overemphasized what you meant, in my mind??? hmmmmm"
perhaps that was my sole instance of inadvertent hyperbole in retrospect. this album planted him there for me, but he could be uprooted. one album isn't enough to know for certain, but i have little doubt in his upcoming one.

I followed this techno dude Emmanuel from ARTS records and I remember him ripping her up
|

did singeli music ever make its way to you whenever rym discovered it
|
| |
yeah she had another controversy like that recently with Daniel Wang that was a lot of fun
|
| |
@sach to summarize peggy gou she's basically the epitome of crazy rich spoiled asian but the type to very quickly pull the POC card to excuse her shitty entitled behaviour
also her music is the definition of mid and she's essentially a product rather than a musician
you'd hate her big time
|

iglooghost sucks yeah, he was ok when he was a wanna-be flylo protege tho

>in all honesty i stay quite detached from the electronic scene beyond the few niches i fetishise
i think that makes sense
