It’s a 4.5 (closer to a 5 than a 4 tho) which is pretty wild, because that makes it my 4th fave jazz album at worst

Exciting developments!

(I should also check more Cecil, as I’ve only heard this and Conquistador)

Check:
• Conquistador! (you said this already but it's so good it deserved to be re-mentioned)
• The Cecil Taylor Unit (great use of the violin throughout; Side B is incredible)
• 3 Phasis (very overlooked gem in his free jazz pocket; extremely dense and layered)
• The World of Cecil Taylor (his version of "The Shape of Jazz to Come")
• Fly Fly Fly Fly Fly (solo piano record, hard to subsist with only one instrument sometimes, but he makes it work)
• Winged Serpent (awesome big band interpretation of his classic free jazz style)
• Looking Ahead! (one of his earliest works, and very "conventional" by his standards, but still essential imo; but beware the vibraphone)

He was. Seems to be generally overlooked when discussing jazz greats, too. Like, he will always get a mention, and his albums are rated favorably at most outlets. But he's rarely mentioned in anyone's top 10 or whatever, at least from what I've seen. Maybe that's a ludicrous sentiment. Maybe it's recency bias - I just finished up some of his albums I hadn't heard before (and also revisited the few I had) but came out on the other side wondering which jazz giant I'd have to bump from my Mt Rushmore to make room for Cecil.

I suppose this reaction hinges heavily on your predilection for free jazz specifically (hence why I find myself in similar arguments regarding Ornette Coleman and Albert Ayler), but yeah man, Cecil's discography is quickly turning into one of my absolute favorites within the jazz-o-sphere.
