like today, i was chatting shit to these 12/13 y/os about how their holidays were and if they lit fireworks, and then pointed out that fireworks in the uk are more of a late autumn/NY thing - which was all cool and understood - and then i mentioned nov 5th and the japanese teacher asked me why it was a festival, and i kinda looked at her for a sec and then told the whole class the story of guy fawkes in like 30 seconds flat and their faces went from wow we can understand all of this lame summer vacation chat lol this is gr9 to 助けてu bitch faster than you could stomp a dead rat

tbqh i'm not hanging out with anyone at all rn bc of our good ol' state of emergency, but in normal times the pattern tends to be anglosphere folks primarily and japanese pals if there's a large enough pattern already happening
i should make more of an effort to see my local friends more tbh, i get rly lazy and walk out of work not wanting to engage with any further lang barriers as far as poss lol
