lots and lots of cool subgenres happening that are embracing pop as a phenomenon and as a musical descriptor in clever ways right now.

this is an overtly commercialized example of that tbh. so an example indeed, just not a very good one.

lets take this up and coming glitch pop producer who stands for pretty much everything cool about leftfield pop music and neuter his aesthetic.

still classified under the pop umbrella tho. synth-pop, electro-pop, synth-wave, hypnagognic pop, art pop, dream pop, chillwave, noise pop etc etc

this is the decade for pop music, its been a long while where the genre has developed into interesting or just genuinely fun avenues for both the mainstream and the "underground"

oh yea, i get it now.

Still, this wasn't exactly the most popular pop music out there. Fantano's review got it rolling, but it's still very much underground.

God i wish clarence starts doing regular production gigs like this cuz holy he commands this EP with a sexy iron fist.

oh i know. my comments are purely conjecture derived from the presentation and production/music itself compared to his other stuff. I have no real evidence that they are pandering, just sounds like it to me.

tbh clarence's voice takes away from his music, for me. I like it less and less every time i hear it.
