I'm sure these artists are all talented but the idea they shouldn't be seen as sex objects?



Katy Perry? She purposely produces images and artwork that skirt as close to soft porn tropes as imaginable!



She wants to be seen as a sex object, maybe not in her personal life, but her public persona/artistic persona - definitely lol

The sexualisation of certain pop artists is hard to avoid, it's a marketing tactic at the end of the day.

But to tar everyone with the same brush blows my mind. Especially Gaga. She's had her moments, but to compare her to, say, Minaj. Gaga writes a lot of her stuff as well, and there are loads of pop artists that have artistic integrity, and use it rather than just exploiting their bodies to get more notoriety.

Minaj is possibly the worst, to the point you look at her image and it makes you think she came to pop after being rejected as a porn star.



Gaga seems like she holds herself as a true artiste, in the Madonna mould. Still, Madonna sold sex and thus Gaga follows suit to some degree. Not to an overwhelming degree though no.

Yeah, as far as selling sex with music, Minaj is the worst. And if we're judging solely on vocal ability, Minaj doesn't have an ounce of it.

But, on the flip side, I don't like Katie Perry's music or style, but I can give her credit that she has a solid voice.

I don't see it as a scale of 'selling art' and 'selling sex' on opposite ends of the scale.



Perry has a good enough voice (song quality?...eh patchier to say the least) but also is possibly the most extreme in terms of being sexualised in the mainstream, more so than Britney ever was. It's why I know straight men my age who go to Katy Perry shows...!



Minaj isn't really 100% in the mainstream, she just has the occasional moment there. The mainstream can only take so much of that arse tbh.
