Where'd you see her schoonda? I was at last year's Northcote, and this year at Sooki. Both were amazing!

I saw her and Death Cab for Cutie for that price as well...not this past summer but two summers ago.

I like Sooki as a venue, and it should have been nice and intimate, but we all sat on the floor and no one sang along, which was quite distancing; a lot of the people there were also quite rude, particularly during the opening acts. It was still great, but I preferred Northcote. (:

wow 20 for her and deathcab is a steal, I would have thought they'd be more expensive to see. That being said most gigs here can be pricey, it's only gotten worse recently too. Bands like Glassjaw charging $90 for a show...

I've never been but I have a lot of mates that go there as they live out eastern suburbs way. Yeah can't say I've run into that myself before apart from Wil Wagner arvo gigs, it would be a bit of a bummer after the Northcote gig because that was damn special

If anyone wonders why I like the Dixie Chicks it's because I get the same stuff from them at their best as I do Julien Baker except they're more musically complex, which is shitty and probably a weird opinion but yeah

@Blush please don't judge me, if you aren't into country I recommend starting with Taking the Long Way but Home is my personal favorite (:

I really like this album, and I want to like it more than I do, but the first half of the album is just so emotionally exhausting (to the point of me no longer appreciating its beauty). Thank goodness for the second half, because, while it still deals with the same topics and themes, it just sounds a whole lot more hopeful/positive/uplifting than the first half.

As much as I love the expanded sound, I think all the additional instrumentation adds an air of the theatrical to the album, which makes it feel a lil bit overwrought for me. I really do think she's at her absolute best with sparse instrumentation. I think the ones with bigger scores feel a bit too heavy-handed with their sadness. Sort of a "you WILL be sad! listen to how soul-crushing this song is!"

All that being said, I still really love this album. I still prefer "Sprained Ankle," but that album found me at the absolute perfect moment so it's got an unfair advantage of emotional significance.

Conmaniac, I agree 100% with your sentiment about t/t through "Everything..." They're just missing something, and I can't quite put my finger on it. They feel a lil bit "by the numbers" at some points, but there are definitely parts of each song that I like. Let me say this about that though, I really like "Televangelist." I felt like the weight of sadness/grief from the first couple of tracks was lifted off my shoulders when I heard the opening chords of it on a previous listening.

And am I the only one that doesn't really like "Sour Breath?"

the ending of Sour Breath is better than the rest of it but it's still solid. but i'm a sucker for the "overwrought" anyhow

Everything That Helps You Sleep crushes me. "And I could have sworn the sirens were the Holy Ghost just speaking in Morse code" is one of my favorite non-Gang of Youths lyrics of the year.
