How was this getting hate? Sure it doesn't live up to PV in the slightest, but It's still a feel good album worth listening to

Just read the first page of comments on ian's review. People weren't being particularly harsh but there is a lot of "this is boring, PV is better!" and 2/2.5 ratings on it.

Every time I see their vocalist, I get the urge to watch Cast Away.

Yeah, they're a stones throw from me in VA Beach. They're on point instrumentally, but dude struggles to sing sometimes, off key a lot.

I've seen them live and they were damn good. This album though, very disappointing.

@AaroN911 I saw them live about a month before Peripheral Vision came out. I was one of maybe 150 people, if that. I left super impressed, then went home to preorder it, still have my first pressing vinyl. I've been hooked ever since. This album isn't quite as good as PV, but still a great record, for me. Will probably spin this on my turntable now.

I saw them on the Peripheral Vision tour and I agree that "they're on point instrumentally, but dude struggles to sing sometimes, off key a lot". I didn't really mind it that much though, it kinda gave it some character. They were the most mellow band I've ever seen live. They were as enthusiastic on stage as they sound on the last two albums. Again it didn't detract from the show, but it actually reinforced the sound on their albums IMO.

They have the same thing going on as Nothing. And what I mean by that is they can't seem to sing well in a live setting, but can somehow be on point when they're just playing acoustically. I don't really get it, but you can search through YouTube and see what I'm talking about.

I agree with this completely, it was really dim lighting and just super mellow, and they sounded great. Pretty much a perfect stage presence for their music honestly.
