I wasn't sure about this at first but now I really do love it. Not sure if I like this more than The Congregation but I do like it more than Coal.

Vocals are excellent, reminded me of a-ha in (many) places.

Einar's always come up with interesting and catchy vocal melodies. He has definitely listened to a lot of pop music growing up

Poppy style has always suited them, I might almost enjoy this record more than The Congregation. Very hard picking between them all though, I think all their records are really solid!

Yeah, one of my problem with their newer music, mostly this new album is that it's so heavily vocal driven.. of course, that doesn't mean it's automatically bad but I didn't started to listen to them because of the vocals.. I like them, but when the music behind the vocals is lacking, then yes, that's a problem for me .. even more so when the band plays/played prog music

Vocals get kinda tiresome at points, and are mixed too loud imo. Otherwise its a pretty solid album.

Einar has been taking more control of the songwriting, with every album, that's the wht recent ones are very vocal heavy

Just doesn't seem to have the same energy anymore. Lost it around Coal, found a little in parts of Congregation, lost it completely again here.

Bass play on Mirage was fun, though.

The spark that attracted to the band is being tamed by Einar. That's what pisses me off the most about the current direction of the band

well to be fair they were banking off the heels of Ihsahn for their first three albums. That being said I do hope this direction isn't permanent because there can be a lot of problems moving along with this sound.

Ihsahn helped with the production and added vocals, but I don't think he was involved in any songwriting. So this change in direction is definitely induced by Einar's desire to make "mature" music

Fun fact, Ihsahn's wife is the vocalist, Einar Solberg's, sister.
