I wanna do 23andme and figure out my actual ethnic breakdown... could be fun and the trait thing would definitely be cool and useful for health reasons.
|
| |
I had it done with AncestryDNA, which was really cool. being adopted (and since it was closed) it's almost impossible for me to find my ethnic heritage otherwise. turns out I'm a huge mishmash, mostly British/French and Native American (Cherokee).

Got it for free from my bandcamp sub of Avantgarde music and was intrigued by the artwork. Been jamming this A LOT the past few days.
And now you say this is made by a member of this site? wow. Did not expect that.

The artwork in the booklet for this is gorgeous
|
| |
All the booklet art is by William Bliss Baker, a painter from the Hudson Valley school and a student of Bierstadt (the one every atmospheric bm band uses for their cover art). He frequently painted forest studies in the eastern New York area and one of his paintings passed through our local art gallery while I was writing the album (Catskill Mountain Vista, the art opposite "Wolves"). I requested a hi-res copy for my studio, which really helped me get in the mood while writing the instrumental pieces of this album -- especially "Halle Ravine," which is named for a nature preserve in NY where I spent a lot of time as a kid. So Baker's art really ties into the album, beyond just depicting the story's historical setting, and I'm glad you enjoy it. Unfortunately he died at age 26 so not much of his catalogue is widely available.

Wow, that is awesome information. I had a quick look at both of their work and flicking through Bierstadt's stuff I was surprised because I recognise way more of it than I expected from various album covers. I've loved a lot of those covers because they're so grand and beautiful, really adds a lot of atmosphere to the music. So interesting to learn that this guy is basically another Kittelsen.
|
| |
and I didn't know who Kittelsen was until now. you learn something new every day!

honest question, why cassette? Is this for collecting purposes or do people still prefer to listen to music on cassette. I spend way too much money on vinyl and while it's not always the most practical medium, there are a lot of pros (often times higher fidelity, better layouts/artwork). But why do bands still release cassettes?
|
| |
The way I see it, black metal began on cassettes so it's a nod to the origins of the genre. The definitive copy of each classic album is probably a tape, so it's cool to have a new album in that format. Also, they're a lot less expensive and cumbersome than LPs.
It's basically a collector's item that you can listen to.

superior medium agreed
