It's passable

How is it that a band puts out weaker material and they sell better? lol I don't understand. Their billboard number's surprisingly high.

How the band that made Pierced and Effigy could fall so far still blows my mind.

What's so surprising? Those albums are more than 20 years old.
Not to mention, death metal is a rather technically demanding and stressful genre of music to perform so I can imagine the older you get, the worst you are at it.

How does that have anything to do with writing a good record. It'll have an effect on their live shows but getting old doesnt mean youll make worse records. Its a simple matter of using up all your good ideas, like the majority of bands do. Or growing too complacent. The best stuff is usually in earlier albums.

Although age has definitely fucked with Frank. And im sure age would be a factor for the rehearsing/recording of a death metal album when you get into your 60s/70s, but you know what i mean.

You just supported my point though. Good ideas come and go regardless of age, so that is fine. But being complacent comes with age and experience. I can imagine this band was hungry and actually had stuff to say on their first few records.
When you're middle aged and have several albums under your belt already, what can you possibly offer to death metal? There are exceptions of course like Immolation who are consistently releasing decent albums to this day but honestly I can't think of any other band with a long heritage that is still pumping out decent material today.
You even said yourself that the best stuff is in earlier albums, and that is 99% true in death metal, let's be honest.

Say you only started writing your own music in your 40s/50s. Your best material would still probably be coming because you havent used up youre ideas and you havent grown into that comfortable groove yet. It has more to do with how long youve been releasing music rather than being older i think. Thats what i meant, but i think we're saying the same thing in different ways.

Yeah I hear what you are saying and definitely agree.
Wow, it sure is nice to see a dispute end so peacefully.

You can say it's due to age, but bands like Obituary, Cannibal Corpse, Immolation and Gorguts still put out great material that is better than Suffocation (not so much Obituary, but they're of comparable age).
Either way, we all should be happy they're still around because their shows are still pretty awesome.

True, CC and Gergerts are another 2 great examples.

idk about that. Yeah you might be less creative or short on inspiration as you age, but I saw Suffo twice recently, with Frank, and they ruled. Immolation is still kicking ass and they're just as old no?

Immo is one of the few exceptions for sure.
I have a feeling they've been staying healthier and practicing a lot more than other fellow osdm bands and it def shows in their latest albums.

You guys are crazy! This album rules! That breakdown in "Clarity Through Deprivation" is one of the sickest moments in a death metal song ever! Plus the remake of "Epitaph Of the Credulous" is amazing, and all other tracks are consistently great. The only thing I would have liked is a different drummer because this guy just blasts and rolls over his kit during every second which makes the songs sound tedious and gets in the way of how awesome Terrance Hobbs' guitar playing is. Plus it's always great to hear Frank Mullen's awesome death metal vocals, the guy is still king!
